Gossip Girl spinoff

WarnerMedia Developing Gossip Girl Spinoff for HBO Max

There’s more Gossip Girl on the horizon. While there was talk of a series revival over at The CW earlier this year, this new endeavor will be a spinoff set several years after the events of the original series.

The Gossip Girl reboot will follow a new generation of elite New York teens who end up being introduced to the social surveillance of the Gossip Girl site. The show will explore how much social media has evolved, as well as the overall landscape of New York City.

According to Variety, WarnerMedia has given a straight-to-series order for an all-new Gossip Girl, which will be an exclusive offering as part of its upcoming streaming service, now known as HBO Max.

Warner Bros. Television and CBS Television Studios, both studios that produced the original, are back on board for this new go-round. Former executive producers Joshua Safran, Josh Schwartz, Stephanie Savage and Leslie Morgenstein are all returning as well.

The CW original series ran for six seasons from 2007 to 2012. While it was never a rating juggernaut, it had a devoted fanbase and helped make superstars out of leads Blake Lively and Leighton Meester. So much so that Lively is only now returning to TV via a series she’s developing with Amazon.
