Game of Thrones: Lena Headey ‘Wanted a Better Death’ for Cersei

It has been a month since Game of Thrones finally concluded its eight-season run, and many fans and critics are still disappointed with how the beloved HBO series ended as well as how it handled some of its many character deaths.Among the final season’s casualties was Cersei Lannister who died alongside her brother Jaime when they were both crushed by the Red Keep’s collapsing ceiling.

In a recent interview with The Guardian, Emmy Award-nominated actress Lena Headey has given her reaction to Cersei’s death, revealing that it wasn’t really the ending she wanted for her character. Catch the whole series on Blu-Ray here.

“I will say I wanted a better death,” Headey said. “Obviously you dream of your death. You could go in any way on that show. So I was kind of gutted. But I just think they couldn’t have pleased everyone. No matter what they did, I think there was going to be some big comedown from the climb.”

Based on the popular book series A Song of Ice and Fire, by George R.R. Martin, the Emmy-winning fantasy series chronicles an epic struggle for power in a vast and violent kingdom. The series stars Peter Dinklage, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Lena Headey, Emilia Clarke, Kit Harington, Sophie Turner, and Maisie Williams.

The final season of Game of Thrones likely won’t be our last trip to Westeros, as HBO has greenlit a pilot set 1,000 years before the events of the wildly popular sword and sorcery epic. Naomi Watts and Josh Whitehouse have been cast in the as-yet-untitled prequel series. S.J. Clarkson (The DefendersJessica Jones) will direct the pilot.
