Report: The Canceled Swamp Thing Series Had a 3-Season Plan

While the DC Universe original series Swamp Thing was canceled shortly after the first episode aired, the streaming service seemingly had much bigger plans behind it at first.

According to Business Insider, who spoke with people close to the production on the condition of anonymity, the original plan was to have Swamp Thing run for three seasons. If it proved a hit, it would continue beyond those three seasons and possibly lead to a Justice League Dark crossover. Oh, what might have been.

An unnamed producer said that everyone involved said that the “cancellation came as a surprise, 100%. It came out of left field.” In the wake of the sudden news, the show’s crew “walked away with the sets standing. We didn’t tear them down and go home.“

Despite the cancellation, DC Universe is still airing all 10 episodes (down from 13) of the first season, although without plans to continue the story after the finale.

The series stars Andy Bean as Alec Holland, Will Patton as Avery Sutherland Crystal Reed as Abby Arcane, Maria Sten as Liz Tremayne, Jeryl Prescott as Madame Xanadu, Jennifer Beals as Sheriff Lucilia Cable, Virginia Madsen as Maria Sunderland, Henderson Wade as Matt Cable, Kevin Durand as Jason Woodtrue/Floronic Man and Leonardo Nam (Westworld) as Harlan Edwards. Committing to the lead role of the titular monster is The Flash‘s Derek Mears.
