In the original Punky Brewster series, Frye starred as a young girl growing up with foster father Henry Warnimon. In the sequel, Punky is now a single mother of three trying to get her life back on track when she meets a young girl who reminds her a lot of her younger self.
Punky Brewster earned two Emmy nominations during its run from 1984 to 1988. The series was followed up by an animated series, It’s Punky Brewster, with Frye voicing her popular character and earning the show a Daytime Emmy nomination.
After Punky Brewster said farewell in the late ’80s, Frye continued her voice acting work in projects like Robot Chicken, The Proud Family, Bratz, Planet Sheen, and The Secret Files of SpyDogs. Her other credits include Sabrina, the Teenage Witch, Piranha, and the upcoming comedy-drama Heirlooms.
