Netflix has officially given a series order for Emmy Award-nominated writer-actress Mindy Kaling‘s forthcoming coming-of-age comedy series which will be inspired by Kaling’s own childhood with Lang Fisher (Brooklyn Nine-Nine) as the show’s executive producer. The project will mark the second collaboration between Kaling and Fisher, whom have both worked on the romantic-comedy series The Mindy Project.
The untitled series is co-created and co-written by Kaling and Fisher. The 10-episode series will follow the complicated life of a modern-day first generation Indian American teenage girl. 3 Arts’ Howard Klein and David Miner will be executive producing along with Kaling and Fisher, whom are also set to be the series’ showrunners.

Kaling is best known for her work as an actor, writer, director and producer in comedy TV shows such as: The Office opposite Steve Carell and John Krasinski; and The Mindy Project starring alongside Chris Messina (Birds of Prey), Ed Weeks and Anna Camp. Her writing for The Office has earned her an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series.
She recently appeared in the heist comedy film Ocean’s Eight opposite A-List stars Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett, Anne Hathaway, Sarah Paulson, Rihanna, Helena Bonham-Carter and Awkwafina. Kaling will next be seen in the comedy-drama film she wrote titled Late Night co-starring Oscar winner Emma Thompson.
