Netflix has ordered a six-episode limited series is based on the Walter Tevis novel The Queen’s Gambit. The series chronicles the life of an orphan chess prodigy Beth Harmon during the Cold War era, following her from the age of eight to 22, as she struggles with addiction in a quest to become the greatest chess player in the world.
Gotham Award winner and BAFTA Rising Star nominee Anya Taylor-Joy (Glass, The Witch) will star as aspiring chess champion Beth Harmon.

Two-time Academy Award nominee Scott Frank (Godless, Logan) will pull triple duty on The Queen’s Gambit as writer, director, and executive producer on the series. William Horberg (The Talented Mr. Ripley) will executive produce, and Allan Scott (Don’t Look Now, The Preacher’s Wife) will co-write as well as executive produce.
Taylor-Joy also has a number of upcoming projects in the works, including the Playmobil film, the latest film adaptation of Emma, and Edgar Wright’s Last Night in Soho as well as season five of Peaky Blinders and another Netflix series, The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance.
