Following the recent casting of Zach Woods (Silicon Valley), Deadline reports that Beauty and the Beast star Josh Gad has been tapped to join the cast of HBO’s forthcoming space comedy Avenue 5. The pilot is written and executive produced by creator Armando Iannucci (Veep).
Gad is set to portray the role of billionaire Herman Judd, who is the owner of Avenue 5 and the whole Judd brand that includes chains of hotels, fitness clubs and space tourism. Judd thinks he’s good at everything because he has a lot of money. His also described as someone who’s “Terrible at science, he leaves that to the scientists he employs to give him the answers he wants.”

The pilot will also star Golden Globe-winning actor Hugh Laurie (House) as Ryan Clark, the captain of the titular Avenue 5 along with BAFTA winner Rebecca Front (The Thick of It) and Suzy Nakamura (Dr. Ken).
HBO has given Avenue 5 a pilot commitment and ordered additional scripts. However, the network has yet to give the project a series order.

Gad is best known for his role as LeFou in Disney’s live-action Beauty and the Beast. He has also gained recognition as the voice of Olaf in the popular animated film Frozen. He will next be seen in the films such as A Dog’s Journey, Artemis Fowl, and Frozen 2 which are all set to premiere this year.
