Hollywood icon Aubrey Hepburn will be the subject of a new TV biopic from the Italian production company Wildside. According to Variety, the company behind such HBO hit series as The Young Pope and the just-released My Brilliant Friend will start production on the series sometime in 2020.
The English-language series will be based on a treatment co-written by Luca Dotti, Hepburn’s son, and Luigi Spinola, an Italian journalist and writer. The two previously co-authored the 2015 bestseller Audrey at Home, a combination biography and cookbook, complete with anecdotes, recipes and unpublished family photographs. Their new project will pay particular attention to Hepburn’s “formative years,” according to a statement from Wildside. No further details about the plot of the series are available.
Hepburn was known for her unique regality and sophistication and is one of the few performers to win the coveted EGOT (an Emmy, a Grammy, an Oscar, and a Tony). During her career, she was also awarded the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award as well as the Presidential Medal of Freedom. She passed away in 1993 at the age of 63.
The biographical series is indicative of Wildfire’s larger ambitions. The company, ran by Mario Gianani and Lorenzo Mieli, want to capitalize on the success they’ve seen with 2016’s The Young Pope and this year’s My Brilliant Friend, both of which will be getting second seasons.
