In the previous episode of Netflix’s The Innocents, June was admitted to the hospital after putting Lil into a coma. In this episode, June’s examination goes terribly wrong, and in Norway, jealousy over Elena weighs on Sanctum. Now, let’s dive into The Innocents season 1 episode 4!
Flashback
The episode opened with a flashback within a flashback to reveal the origins of Sanctum. Halvorson approached former patient Steinar, whose parents had a secluded farm, to be his partner. Halvorson explained that he met a patient, Runa, who had shifted into another doctor. He brought Steinar to his car to reveal that the real Halvorson was in a trance in the passenger seat. Steinar had been speaking with Runa all along.
No Needles
A pregnant nurse, Deborah, examined June. Harry urged her to test June for everything to get to the bottom of her shifting ability. A syringe triggered June’s shift state, and she transformed into Deborah’s pregnant form. They escaped, going by June’s father and brother in the process. Steinar followed them back to Deborah’s house. Then he and Alf waited until she was alone.
Harry and June argued because June wanted to stay as Deborah. The pregnancy felt real, and June was tapping into Deborah’s memories. Harry left to find a store, and Steinar made his move. He seemed to be approaching June all wrong, roughly handling and scaring her, instead of calmly persuading her. He tried to get her with a syringe again, but Alf followed and fought him. Harry and June ran off and hid in a garage. Steinar was scared off by the police, and Harry helped June find herself again to transform back.
Second Family
Sigrid completed her final session without incident. She hugged Halvorson, something she hadn’t been allowed to do before. At her celebration dinner, Sigrid spoke of Elena’s plans to make a life at Sanctum. Runa accused Halvorson of wanting to start a new family with Elena and June, excluding her. Her jealousy turned into rage, triggering a shift state. Halvorson injected her with a sedative.
Answers
June called Ryan, demanding answers from John. They met in a public place, and June refused to leave with them. She showed Ryan and John the video of Elena from Steinar’s phone. She would be leaving to find her mother. John warned her that Elena wasn’t what she thought and said that he had been the one that took care of Ryan and June. Harry and June ran away and stayed in a motel where they lost their virginity to each other.
Same Girl. Same Dress.
Christine watched footage from the hospital of Harry leaving with June in Deborah’s form. She showed her boss Doug that Deborah’s vibrating eyes are the same as in the “Pennines Five” case, which is linked to what happened to Lewis. But Christine wasn’t the only one who could be investigating the shifting incidents.
The episode ended with a mysterious man in a nice apartment watching footage from the club on a streaming site. The video pointed out June and June in Lil’s form wearing the same dress. The man commented that he knew what was happening in the video.
