-Brought to you by El Rey Network’s From Dusk Till Dawn Season 2-
Last year, Robert Rodriguez rocked the El Rey Network with the TV adaptation of his classic 1996 film, From Dusk Till Dawn. Using the story he created with Quentin Tarantino as an inspiration, Rodriguez reimagined the saga of Seth (D. J. Cotrona) and Richie Gecko (Zane Holtz) for a new generation!
In the first season of “From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series,” the Gecko brothers narrowly escaped across the U.S. border by kidnapping Jacob Fuller (Robert Patrick), and his two children: Katie (Madison Davenport) and Scott (Brandon Soo Hoo). Along the way, Richie’s grasp on his sanity slipped away as he experienced visions of the beautiful Santanico Pandemonium (Eiza González).
The Gecko brothers were pursued by Freddie Gonzalez (Jesse Garcia), a renegade U.S. lawman who was out to avenge the death of his mentor at the Gecko bros.’ hands. At the direction of crime lord Carlos Madrigal (Wilmer Valderrama), the Geckos took their hostages to the infamous Titty Twister bar and they soon found themselves locked inside with vampires.
Richie encountered the real Santanico and he was transformed into her “prince,” much to the horror of his brother. In the final conflict, Scott and Jacob were both turned into vampires, but Scott survived. Gonzales also made it out alive, while Carlos was banished to the labyrinth.
Unlike the From Dusk Till Dawn movie, Seth allowed Katie to accompany him at the end of the first season while Richie and Santanico escaped and traveled to the United States.
For the upcoming second season, Rodriguez has expanded the mythology of the series beyond the original film. All bets are off as the series resumes three months after the escape from the Titty Twister.
“This season, viewers can expect to see the characters pair off in new, different ways than the original story,” explained Carlos Coto (“24”), who will serve as the new showrunner of “From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series.” “The characters were so deep and rich. Heroes that you thought were just heroes can also be villains. And villains you thought were just villains can also be heroes. None of the roles are what you would expect.”
At the start of season 2, Santanico and her lover, Richie Gecko are on a crime spree in the U.S., as she aims to take out her former master, Lord Amancio Malvado, as portrayed by Esai Morales. They may be the Bonnie and Clyde of the vampire world, but Richie has an agenda other than vengeance. He wants to build his own criminal empire and make his own legend.
South of the border, things aren’t going as well for Seth and Kate. Seth is still stinging from his brother’s betrayal and he’s not quite the master criminal that he once was. Seth is no longer in control, and Kate may actually be the more capable criminal in their new partnership!
Seth will form a relationship with Sonja Lam (Briana Evigan), an expert forger who may help fill the void in his life that was left by his brother’s departure. Meanwhile, Kate hasn’t given up on finding a way to help her brother Scott.
Richie and Seth Gecko will eventually be reunited with the man who raised them, Uncle Eddie Cruickshank, as played by TV veteran, Jeff Fahey. Uncle Eddie’s criminal ambitions may coincide with those of his nephews, as they make plans for the Houston Syndicate.
Although Gonzalez was allowed to return to his family at the end of the first season, he’s not out of the picture yet! Far from it, in fact. It may be Gonzalez’s destiny to take part in the coming conflict. Gonzalez has become paranoid about his family’s safety while assembling an arsenal to protect them from the supernatural beings that he is all too painfully aware of after his experiences in the Titty Twister. Despite Gonzalez’s best efforts, Lord Malvado and his empire will reenter his life.
Lord Malvado is one of the major players this season on “From Dusk Till Dawn.” As one of the “Nine Lords of the Night,” Malvado was among the originators the vampire race! Veteran actor, Danny Trejo will portray The Regulator, the supernatural enforcer who answers directly to Lord Malvado.
Carlos may be the wildcard of the second season. The Nine attempted to “re-educate” Carlos and bring him into their ranks. But he’s only been driven insane, and Carlos now has ambitions to take over their entire empire! Scott Fuller and Sex Machine (Jake Busey) will also become Carlos’ new errand boys as he carves his way to the top of the criminal mountain.
Eventually, the Geckos, Santanico, Gonzalez, and the Fullers will be reunited and forced to face an even greater adversary. Will it be Lord Malvado and The Regulator? Or will Carlos be their ultimate enemy? The new big bad may even be someone completely unexpected. Only one thing is certain: things are going to get bloody before the end of the season!
Don’t miss the season premiere of “From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series” on Tuesday, August 25 on the El Rey Network!
