In the previous episode of HBO’s Watchmen, the Seventh Kavalry successfully zapped Dr. Manhattan away. In the Season 1 finale of Watchmen, Sen. Keene prepared to absorb Dr. Manhattan’s powers, while Lady Trieu executed her plan.
Escape from Europa
We saw the original Bian, Lady Trieu’s mother, as she broke into Adrian Veidt’s safe where he stored his semen samples. She was a cleaning lady, and he was busy making the video for Robert Redford, explaining his giant squid plan. She inseminated herself with sample #2346. While Veidt was still working out of his office in Antarctica, Lady Trieu visited him to tell him that she had a plan to capture and absorb Dr. Manhattan’s powers to get rid of all the nuclear weapons in the world. She would send a probe to Europa to take pictures of Dr. Manhattan to confirm his location. Lady Trieu asked Veidt for $42 billion because she was his daughter. Veidt said that he’d never call her daughter and that she should build something from nothing as he had.
On Europa, Veidt escaped through a tunnel he dug with the weapon he found in his cake. The Game Warden caught him, but he was able to kill him. Veidt had ordered the Game Warden to wear a mask and prevent him from leaving. He needed a worthy adversary to keep him sane for eight years on Europa. A ship arrived to take him away. Lady Trieu sent it since she’d seen the message that he’d written for her with the dead bodies. The device to preserve him on the long journey back to earth encased him in metal. He was the statue that Lady Trieu had of him.
A Big Show
Cyclops gathered around a cage holding Dr. Manhattan. They used batteries from old watches to contain him. Sen. Keene was forcing Laurie to watch. Wade was undercover as Seventh Kavalry. Angela arrived and warned them that they were playing into Lady Trieu’s hands. Sen. Keene ignored her and got into the chamber. When they flipped the switch, they were teleported in the town square where the Tulsa Massacre memorial was.
Lady Trieu revealed that Keene had been liquified. She brought Veidt out to watch her take Dr. Manhattan’s powers. Mrs. Crawford interrupted Trieu’s speech, one that Will had written. Lady Trieu vaporized all the members of Cyclops. Dr. Manhattan used what was left of Keene to channel his powers outside of the cage and teleported Veidt, Laurie, and Wade to Antarctica to save the day. Lady Trieu successfully destroyed Dr. Manhattan, but his powers needed to pass through a quantum centrifuge before she could take them. From his office, Veidt lowered the temperature on the squid rain to freeze them and turn them deadly. Blake called the Dr. Manhattan phone booth to warn Angela. Lady Trieu died as the squids ripped apart her quantum centrifuge.
“Watch the Eggs”
Angela used a crate cover to shield herself from the falling squids as she ran to the theater. Will was waiting for her as her children slept on the stage. Will explained that it had been Jon’s plan all along for him to team up with Trieu. Angela invited him to stay with her for a couple of days.
While Angela cleaned up the eggs that she had slammed on her kitchen floor earlier that night, she noticed one was intact. Will had also passed along a message from Jon about breaking eggs. Though she hadn’t understood at the time, she remembered the night they had met. Angela had asked Jon if he could pass along his powers into an egg. If she ate the egg, he would have her powers, like the ability to walk on water. Angela went to the backyard with the egg and ate it raw. She slowly lowered her foot into her pool.
