Amazon’s Good Omens is the TV adaptation for the Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman novel about a demon and angel teaming up to prevent the end of the world. In Good Omens Season 1 Episode 1, we met Aziraphale and Crowley as they planned to raise the Anti-Christ to be a normal person.
In the Beginning
Aziraphale, an angel, and Crowley, a demon, met at the beginning of humanity. As a snake, Crowley tempted Eve to eat the apple, and Adam and Eve left paradise. Aziraphale met Crowley, who watched Adam fight a lion with a flaming sword. Aziraphale had given Adam his own sword on his way out. Crowley questioned why humans knowing the difference between good and evil was so bad.
Three Card Monte
Eleven years before the end of the world, Dukes of Hell, Hastur and Ligur, tasked Aziraphale with delivering the Anti-Christ to the Satanic nuns. The Anti-Christ was to be placed with an American diplomat working under George W. Bush named Thaddeus Dowling and his wife Harriet. Unfortunately, Deirdre Young went into labor early, and she and her husband, Arthur, arrived at the same time as the Dowlings. Crowley mistook Arthur for Thaddeus and instructed the Satanic nun to bring the baby to the Youngs’ room instead.
Through a series of miscommunications, the Anti-Christ, named Adam, made it home with the Youngs while the Youngs’ son went to the Dowlings and was named Warlock. The Dowlings’ son was disposed of in some mysterious way.
The Plan
Crowley was supposed to prepare the Anti-Christ to grow to be evil and begin Armageddon. Gabriel tasked Aziraphale with keeping an eye on Crowley, not knowing that they had a history. He informed Aziraphale that Crowley was involved in setting the apocalypse in motion.
That night, Crowley convinced Aziraphale to help stop the apocalypse. Both of them had gotten accustomed to life on Earth. They would enter the Anti-Christ’s life when he was five, and while Crowley steered him toward evil, Aziraphale steered him toward good. They hoped they would cancel each other out, and the Anti-Christ would grow up to be a normal human. Unfortunately, they were working on the wrong child.
Dog
At the Anti-Christ’s 11th birthday, he would receive a hell hound. Once he named it, Armageddon would begin.
Crowley and Aziraphale waited for Warlock to meet the hell hound, but it never came. They realized they had been raising the wrong child. We saw Adam Young telling his friends about the kind of dog he would like to have. The hell hound transformed itself into Adam’s ideal dog, and Adam named it Dog.
