In the previous episode of NBC’s Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Jake teamed up with Doug Judy. Brooklyn Nine-Nine season 6 episode 6 had Jake paired with Rosa as they worked to solve a murder case.
Dope Case
Jake and Rosa arrived at the apartment of a homicide victim. Despite a messy crime scene full of evidence, leads were sparse. Unfortunately, Jake promised the victim’s mother, and dozens of other people, that they would find Andrew’s killer. Jake said she reminded him of his own mother since they were both single mothers.
Throughout the case, Jake and Rosa dealt with Franco McCoy, a crime scene investigator that talked like he was on the show CSI. He was in charge of a large group from the CSU and insisted on leaving the air conditioning off to not disturb the evidence.
When days and weeks went by without any leads, Jake obsessed over finding Andrew’s killer. Rosa and Terry especially admonished him for making promises to the victim’s mother. Holt couldn’t hold off Major Crimes any longer. Jake had to turn the case over to them.
Cosmetology School
Rosa’s current girlfriend, Jocelyn, was studying to become a hair stylist. Each new day that we saw Rosa, she had a new hairstyle. She was nervous about meeting Jocelyn’s parents, especially when she hadn’t talked to her own mother since Rosa came out to her. After they told Andrew’s mother that they couldn’t find his killer, she started to remind Rosa of her own mother. Andrew’s mother revealed that they’d had a falling out. At the end of the episode, Rosa called her mom, and they met amicably at the precinct.
Cold Case
Major Crimes had labeled it a cold case. Though Rosa and Jake had a renewed drive to solve it, they were disappointed to find that the crime scene had been completely cleaned up just one day later. But the AC was on for the first time in weeks, and Jake and Rosa could hear rattling. They found trash in the vents from someone who had lived in the wall for a few days.
Jake and Rosa solved the case. The killer had snuck in during a party and lived in the vents. He murdered Andrew, an investigative journalist who was writing an expose. The killer purposefully left the crime scene a mess to guarantee a large CSI staff. He snuck out dressed in a hazmat suit, but unlike the others, he wasn’t wearing booties in the security footage.
