gen:LOCK Season 1 Episode 4 Recap

In the previous episode of Rooster Teeth’s gen:LOCK, the recruits uploaded to their Holons for the first time. In gen:LOCK season 1 episode 4, a Union attack interrupted the team’s time off from training.

School Day

As the recruits trained with Miranda’s crew, Dr. Weller explained some of the factors to consider when spending time in the Holons. They must protect their brain at all costs while in the field. Uptime was how long their brains were running on cyberbrain. If they spent too much uptime, they could become incompatible and wouldn’t be able to download again. While in gen:LOCK, they could overclock, but it consumed uptime faster. Next, their body suits were intelligent armor that provided nervous system information and gave them enhanced strength and speed. The team had their own private network where they could telepathically communicate with each other while on cyber brain. Finally, Dr. Weller revealed that they could age out of gen:LOCK; for example, Leon was compatible but too old.

In the hangar, Miguel gave Cammie the software she would need to mod her Holon. Her Holon felt off to her. Several feet away, Julian spoke to Miranda about Jodie. He didn’t blame her for moving on. Miranda encouraged him to talk to him more next time.

The Ether

The recruits had to work on team-building. Since they couldn’t leave the Anvil, on their day off, Cammie suggested going into the Ether, a virtual reality world. They showed off their avatars, where Cammie was a bunny, Yaz wore a hijab, Valentina was male and revealed herself to be genderfluid, Kazu looked even tougher, and Julian wore a hoodie. Unfortunately, their time in the Ether was interrupted.

gen:LOCK Season 1 Episode 4 Recap

The Union was attacking the Dallas Data Center, one of the central nodes for the Ether. This was unusual for the Union because they preferred to spread slowly like a virus rather than attacking far out of their reach. Team gen:LOCK flew out to Dallas since being closer conserved their uptime.

The building seemed too easy to secure. A Union Holon arrived with surrounding Nanotech. While fighting, the Union Holon ripped off Cammie’s Holon head, and she successfully mindshared with Yaz and achieved gen:LOCK phase 2. However, when Miranda arrived in her Strider, the Union Holon fled.
