The upcoming episode of Dateline NBC is set to examine the gruesome murder of Camilo Salazar that shocked the entire nation. The episode, titled ‘The End of the Affair’, will dive deeper into the case and air on the network on Thursday, November 9, at 10 p.m. EST.
Salazar, an active churchgoer, contributed to his parish, St. Stephen’s, by assisting in fundraising and event planning, such as the annual art show, alongside his wife. Besides his commitment to his family, Salazar thrived as a prosperous businessman, participating in diverse entrepreneurial endeavors. His life was seemingly perfect until June 2011 when things took a drastic turn.
On June 1, 2011, he dropped his infant daughter at his wife’s office located at 2801 SW 31st Ave around 10:30 a.m. Salazar noticed that he had left the baby’s pacifier in his car. Subsequently, he went outside to retrieve it, but he never returned.
How was Camilo Salazar Murdered?
The police searched for almost 8 hours after his disappearance but were unable to find anything suspicious. However, on the next day, the media contacted the police to inquire about a body discovered burning at Okeechobee Road and Northwest 138th Avenue the previous night, and it drew everyone’s attention.
The authorities sent the body for examination, and the doctor identified it as Camilo Salazar’s. The police swiftly initiated an inquiry and soon discovered Salazar’s extramarital relationship with Jenny Marin. As the investigation progressed, it became clear that Jenny’s husband, Manuel Marin, orchestrated Salazar’s brutal murder.
In 2019, nearly 8 years later, Marin and three accomplices faced trial and prosecutors revealed gruesome details. According to the prosecutor, Salazar had just finished dropping off his infant daughter with his wife. Afterward, the kidnappers abducted him from the street and forcefully transported him to a desolate stretch of the Everglades. Leaving the car with bound hands, he knelt and endured repeated face and head blows that fractured his skull and jaw.
Next, using a knife or boxcutter, his perpetrators slashed Salazar’s throat from left to right, causing him to keel over while still alive. A few minutes later, the culprits poured gasoline over his body and burnt him.
The jurors found all the culprits, including Manuel Marin, guilty of the kidnapping and murder of Camilo Salazar.
