The upcoming spy thriller Red Sparrow promises an intriguing look at the world of espionage, spearheaded by a compelling lead played by Jennifer Lawrence. The Academy Award winner portrays Dominika Egorova, a prima ballerina whose ferocity has pushed her body and mind to the absolute limit. After suffering through a career-ending injury, she finds herself manipulated into becoming the newest recruit for Sparrow School, a secret intelligence service that trains exceptional young people like her to use their bodies and minds as weapons. After enduring the perverse and sadistic training process, she emerges as the most dangerous Sparrow the program has ever produced. Dominika must now reconcile the person she was with the power she now commands, with her own life and everyone she cares about at risk, including an American CIA agent who tries to convince her he is the only person she can trust.
In a new featurette titled “Meet Dominika,” Lawrence provides some details on her Russian super spy character and we get a few brief looks at the behind the scenes of the film.
Set to the tune of Ruelle‘s “Game of Survival,” the featurette showcases the backstory of Dominika’s character with Lawrence describing her character as “fascinating” and “fiercely intelligent.” It provides a few brief looks at Lawrence on set and also highlights a number of the other immensely-talented stars in the film, including Joel Edgerton and Charlotte Rampling. There is also an effective use of the color in the video as the primary blues and reds pop onto the screen which has the potential to be a feast for the eyes on the big screen.
Red Sparrow is based on the novel by Jason Matthews and stars Jennifer Lawrence, Joel Edgerton, Matthias Schoenaerts, Charlotte Rampling, Mary-Louise Parker, Joely Richardson, and Jeremy Irons. it is directed by Lawrence’s The Hunger Games: Catching Fire and Mockingjay director Francis Lawrence.
The film releases in theaters on March 2, 2018.
