Netflix Benji launches in March, trailer out now
America’s favorite ol’ little shaggy dog Benji is back, and he has found a new home on Netflix. Watch the debut trailer for the full, feature-length film in the player below.
A modern day retelling of the classic, the story of Benji follows one orphaned puppy and Carter and Frankie, two capricious New Orleans school kids who strike up a friendship with the tenacious street dog. When danger befalls them and they end up kidnapped by robbers who are in over their heads, Benji and his scruffy sidekick come to the rescue.
The film is written, directed and produced by Brandon Camp (Love Happens), whose father Joe Camp wrote, directed and produced the original film. Jason Blum (Get Out, Paranormal Activity) also served as producer for the movie.
Benji stars Kiele Sanchez (Lost, The Glades), Gabriel Bateman (Stalker) and Darby Camp (Big Little Lies).
The 1974 family movie was a massive surprise global hit, making over $45 million on just a $500,000 budget and spawning a franchise that lasted four more successful films. The theme song “I Feel Love” won a Golden Globe for Best Original Song, and was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Original Song.
Catch the new adventures of the cute, cuddly golden canine on Netflix when Benji releases worldwide on March 16.
