Listen to Trent Reznor’s New Version of the Halloween Theme!

In honor of John Carpenter’s newly-released album “Anthology: Movie Themes 1974-1998,” Nine Inch Nails frontman and film composer Trent Reznor and his partner Atticus Ross have recorded a new version of Carpenter’s iconic Halloween theme. Listen to it in the player below!

“I clearly remember my friends and I at 13 years old conning our parents into letting us see ‘Halloween’ when it came out in 1978,” said Reznor on his Facebook. “We left the theater forever changed. We were damaged and scarred, with the sh*t genuinely scared out of us and that theme stuck firmly in our heads. John Carpenter, it’s your fault that I turned out the way I did.”

In other good news, an interview with Billboard confirms that Carpenter himself will return to compose the music for the Blumhouse and Universal’s new Halloween movie!

“I am an executive producer and it looks clear to me that I’ve made a deal to do the music,” Carpenter confirmed. “There are many options. I’ll be consulting with the director to see what he feels. I could create a new score, we could update the old score and amplify it, or we could combine those two things. I’ll have to see the movie to see what it requires.”

In the new Halloween movie, Judy Greer will play Karen Strode, the daughter of Jamie Lee Curtis’ character. Jamie Lee Curtis will return to the franchise that kicked off her career and she will once again be playing the iconic role of Laurie Strode, who comes to her final confrontation with Michael Myers. Curtis’ character was unceremoniously killed off in Halloween: Resurrection in 2002, but in true Halloween franchise fashion, it would appear that the film will be ignoring the continuity of many of the sequels in favor of telling its own story. Curtis has previously appeared in four films in the series, including the 1978 original, its 1981 sequel, 1998’s Halloween H20: 20 Years Later, and Resurrection.

David Gordon Green (Pineapple Express, Your Highness) will direct Halloween and co-write the script for the film with Danny McBride.

Carpenter will executive produce with Malek Akkad producing for Trancas and Jason Blum producing for Blumhouse. Green and McBride will also executive produce under their Rough House Pictures banner. Zanne Devine and David Thwaites will oversee for Miramax which is co-financing with Blumhouse.

The film will arrive in theaters from Universal Pictures on October 19, 2018, forty years after the premiere of the original film.
