ComingSoon.net has received the first trailer for FilmDistrict’s The Rum Diary, which returns Johnny Depp to the world of Hunter S. Thompson in the adaptation that has him playing New York journalist Paul Kemp who travels down to San Juan, Puerto Rico to work at the local paper.
Previously, Depp played Hunter S. Thompson in Terry Gilliam’s Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas in 1998 and was the narrator for Alex Gibney’s doc Gonzo: The Life and Work of Dr. Hunter S. Thompson in 2008.
Also starring Amber Heard, Aaron Eckhart, Giovani Ribisi and Richard Jenkins and directed by Withnail & I helmer Bruce Robinson, The Rum Diary is scheduled to open on October 28. You can view photos from the film by clicking here.
