CS sits down with Goosebumps cast members Jack Black, Dylan Minnette, Odeya Rush and Ryan Lee
If you were a kid in the ’90s, you very likely read the Goosebumps horror novel series by R.L. Stine. There were 62 books published in the series, which featured monsters like the Abominable Snowman, a werewolf and — likely the most famous — Slappy the Dummy, an evil marionette. A television series followed and the Goosebumps series has continued to maintain a slew of fans all these years later. Now, we’re getting a movie version and ComingSoon.net recently had the chance to sit down with the Goosebumps cast and chat about bringing the books to the screen.
Goosebumps stars Jack Black as a fictional version of R.L. Stine. He lives next door to Zach (Dylan Minnette), a young man who just moved into the neighborhood with his mom (Amy Ryan) after the death of his father. Zack, his new buddy Champ (Ryan Lee) and Stine’s daughter Hannah (Odeya Rush) accidentally unleash the real monsters from the book series that Stein has been keeping hidden in the original copies of the books and have to save the town from a monster attack.
We chatted with Goosebumps cast members Black, Minnette, Rush and Lee — and, of course, Slappy the Dummy himself — at the Goosebumps movie press day. We talked to Black and Slappy about working together (and whether or not Black was starstruck when he met Slappy) and what their biggest fears are. Meanwhile, Minnette, Rush and Lee tell us about building their onscreen relationships and what Easter Eggs eagle-eyed fans should be looking out for.
Check out the Goosebumps cast interviews in the player below and catch the film itself when Goosebumps arrives in theaters this Friday, October 16.
