ComingSoon.net sits down Pawn Sacrifice cast members Tobey Maguire and Michael Stuhlbarg, director Edward Zwick and screenwriter Steven Knight
Hitting select theaters today, Pawn Sacrifice is a both a period thriller and a true sports story, hailing from Glory and The Last Samurai director Edward Zwick. The Pawn Sacrifice cast is headlined by Tobey Maguire, who stars as chess champion Bobby Fischer. ComingSoon.net recently sat down with Zwick and Maguire alongside costar Michael Stuhlbarg and screenwriter Steven Knight (who is also well known as a director after his acclaimed Locke, starring Tom Hardy).
Set during the height of the Cold War, American chess prodigy Bobby Fischer finds himself caught between two superpowers when he challenges the Soviet Empire. Also starring Liev Schreiber as his Russian arch rival Boris Spassky, Pawn Sacrifice chronicles Fischer’s terrifying struggles with genius and madness, and the rise and fall of a kid from Brooklyn who captured the imagination of the world.
In addition to Maguire and Stuhlbarg, the Pawn Sacrifice cast features Peter Sarsgaard (Blue Jasmine), Lily Rabe (“American Horror Story”) and Robin Weigert (“Sons of Anarchy”).
A Bleeker Street Media release, Pawn Sacrifice opens in New York and Los Angeles today with an expansion to Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas, Denver, Minneapolis, Portland, St. Louis, San Diego, San Francisco, Seattle and Washington DC this Friday, September 18. It will then expand to theaters everywhere September 25.
