One of my favorite films at SXSW this year was Patrick Brice‘s The Overnight. It was a sex comedy that didn’t treat sex as just a means for raunch. It looks to explore modern sexual relationships in an adult and, more importantly, funny way, featuring a quartet of terrific performances from Taylor Schilling, Adam Scott, Jason Schwartzman, and Judith Godrèche. A new trailer for the film has arrived, which you can watch below. Because the film is a comedy, I would caution you about watching it for fear of punchlines being spoiled. This is a movie you should watch regardless because it is good. If you do still need convincing or don’t care about that spoiler stuff, by all means, go ahead and give it a watch. The Overnight hits limited release June 19.
Alex, Emily and their son RJ are new to Los Angeles. A chance meeting at the park introduces them to the mysterious Kurt, Charlotte and Max. A family “playdate” becomes increasingly interesting as the night goes on.
