A plot for the upcoming Star Wars spin-off Rogue One has been revealed and it appears it has some lofty aspirations. According to the official Star Wars Twitter feed the film will center on a band of resistance fighters unite for a daring mission to steal the Death Star plans. The film will be directed by Gareth Edwards (Godzilla) and Felicity Jones is already confirmed to star with Chris Weitz (Cinderella) writing the screenplay. Ben Mendelsohn has been rumored for the film as well.
Rogue One is the first film in a unique series of big-screen adventures, exploring the characters and events beyond the core Star Wars saga, which continues this December with Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens.
A teaser for the new film was shown at Star Wars Celebration and can be viewed below, though don’t expect more for a while as the film doesn’t arrive until Dec. 16, 2016.
Josh Trank (Fantastic Four) is also directing a spin-off feature with Rian Johnson already attached to direct Star Wars: Episode VIII.
