Perhaps Paramount decided to delay Martin Scorsese’s Shutter Island so they could market the hell out of it online as the third trailer for the film has debuted on Spike during the 2009 Scream Awards, yet it won’t be seen in theaters until February 19, 2010.
Shutter Island is one of two high-profile 2009 releases that were bumped to the early months of 2010 along with Universal and Paul Greengrass’ Green Zone, which saw its first trailer debut just yesterday. Both will now contend to be the early talk of 2010 and both could conceivably be looked at as year-long Oscar contenders, but I think Shutter‘s apparent “fright factor” and Green Zone‘s action elements may simply make the two a pair of potential moviegoer favorites, but no one is going to complain about that.
