In the film, newcomer (and 12-year-old acting talent) Garrett Wareing plays Stet, a rebellious preteen with a remarkable gift who is challenged by a demanding vocal teacher (two-time Academy Award winner Dustin Hoffman) at one of the most prestigious music academies in the country as they prepare for the National Championship. Also starring is Hoffman’s fellow Academy Award winner Kathy Bates (Tammy, “American Horror Story”), as well as Kevin McHale (“Glee”), Eddie Izzard (“Powers,” “Hannibal”), Debra Winger (Lola Versus, “In Treatment”), River Alexander (The Way Way Back) and Josh Lucas (Big Sur, “The Mysteries of Laura”).
The original screenplay for Boychoir arrives from Source Code scribe Ben Ripley. The film is produced by Carol Baum, Judy Cairo and Jane Goldernring of Informant Media. Executive producers include Eric Brenner, Ben Ripley and Michael A. Simpson.
Boychoir opens in select theaters on April 3.
