Schitt’s Creek co-creator Daniel “Dan” Levy has unveiled the trailer for his feature directorial debut, Good Grief. Loosely based on his personal experience of loss, the upcoming comedy drama — set to arrive Netflix on January 5, 2024 — sees the main lead dealing with the death of a loved one.
Serving as his first project since the hit sitcom concluded in 2020, Good Grief also stars Levy as Marc, alongside Luke Evans as Oliver, Ruth Negga as Sophie, and Himesh Patel as Thomas. The rest of the cast includes Celia Imrie, David Bradley, Arnaud Valois, Emma Corrin, and Kaitlyn Dever.
“Love lost is love found”
The film will center on Marc’s struggles to cope with the death of his husband, Oliver. But with his friends willing to join him on the other side of the world while he processes his emotions, Marc embarks on a self-discovery journey to Paris along with two of his closest friends, Sophie and Thomas.
The synopsis for Good Grief reads as follows: “Marc (Daniel Levy) was content living in the shadow of his larger-than-life husband, Oliver (Luke Evans). But when Oliver unexpectedly dies, Marc’s world shatters, sending him and his two best friends, Sophie (Ruth Negga) and Thomas (Himesh Patel), on a soul-searching trip to Paris that reveals some hard truths they each needed to face. Good Grief marks Levy’s debut as a feature-film writer and director. He also produced as part of Not a Real Production Company, alongside Sister Pictures.”
The film’s producers are Levy, Megan Zehmer, Debra Hayward, and Kate Fenske, with Stacey Snider and Caroline Levy serving as the film’s executive producers.
Good Grief premieres in select theaters on December 29 and will soon hit Netflix on January 5.
