What is Omen?

“After spending years in Belgium, Koffi, a young Congolese man, returns to his birthplace of Kinshasa to confront his family and homeland culture,” reads the synopsis. “Secrecy and sorcery erupt when a nosebleed is mistaken for a curse, and Koffi is shunned from his family. Using magical realism to paint a portrait of “undesirables” and “sorcerers,” OMEN delves into the intricacies of identity, culture, and belief systems through a deeply rich and visually captivating lens.”

Omen serves as the feature directorial debut of award-winning musician Baloji. The film is co-written by Baloji and Thomas van Zuylen. The film stars Marc Zinga, Lucie Debay, Eliane Umuhire, Yves-Marina Gnahoua, Marcel Otete Kabeya.

It is produced by Benoit Roiland, Sander Verdonck, and Emmanuel Lupia. The creative team includes cinematographer Joachim Philippe and composer Liesa Van Der AA along with editors Bruno Tracq and Bertrand Conard.
