Mothering Sunday Trailer Highlights a Secret Love Affair

Sony Pictures Classics has revealed a brand new Mothering Sunday trailer for Evan Husson’s romantic drama film, starring Odessa Young and Josh O’Connor. The film had its world premiere last July at the 2021 Cannes Film Festival and is currently slated to hit U.S. theaters on February 25, 2022.

The video, which you can check out below, highlights the secret love affair between a maid and her employer’s son. They try to make the best out of their last moments together before he gets married to a childhood friend that his parents chose for him.

Mothering Sunday is being led by Odessa Young (The Stand, Shirley) along with Colin Firth, and The Crown co-stars Olivia Colman and Josh O’Connor. Joining them are Sope Dirisu, Glenda Jackson, Simon Shepherd, Caroline Harker, and Emma D’Arcy.

“On a warm spring day in 1924, housemaid and foundling Jane Fairchild (Odessa Young) finds herself alone on Mother’s Day,” reads the synopsis. “Her employers, Mr. and Mrs. Niven are out and she has the rare chance to spend an afternoon of abandon with her secret lover, Paul, the boy from the manor house nearby who is Jane’s long-term love despite the fact that he’s engaged to be married to another woman, a childhood friend, and daughter of his parents’ friends. But events that neither can foresee will change the course of Jane’s life forever.”

Based on Graham Swift’s acclaimed 2016 drama novelMothering Sunday is directed by French filmmaker Eva Husson from a screenplay adapted by Alice Birch (Succession, Normal People). Elizabeth Karlsen (Carol) and Stephen Woolley (The Crying Game) of Number 9 Films are producing.
