My Son Trailer: James McAvoy & Claire Foy Star in Mystery Drama Pic

Peacock has successfully acquired the distribution rights to STXfilms’ mystery thriller drama titled My Son, which is an English remake of the acclaimed 2017 French film of the same name. Starring James McAvoy and Claire Foy, the film will be available for streaming on Wednesday, September 15.

The streamer has also debuted the official My Son trailer, which you can check out below, featuring a father’s desperation in finding his son who has been kidnapped, with McAvoy improvising all of his scenes in the movie.

My Son is directed by the original film’s director Christian Carion, who also directed the French film, from a screenplay he co-wrote with Laure Irrmann. The English-language remake also stars Gary Lewis and Tom Cullen.

“Driving in the heart of the Highlands, Edmond Murray (McAvoy) receives a call from his ex-wife (Foy), in tears,” reads the synopsis. “Their 7-year-old son went missing from a campsite. Soon it becomes clear that the child was kidnapped and the parents give way to despair.”

Just like in the 2017 film with lead star Guillaume Canet, McAvoy wasn’t given a script or dialogue and was only aware of basic aspects of his story. Because of this, he improvised and reacted to each scene in real-time, putting him and the audience in the same position in terms of discovering the film’s twists and turns. Meanwhile, the rest of the cast and crew were aware of the scenes.
