Sony Pictures Classics has released the official trailer for director Azazel Jacobs’ forthcoming dark comedy film titled French Exit, featuring Academy Award nominees Michelle Pfeiffer and Lucas Hedges as their characters move to Paris to start a new life after going broke in New York. The film will make its debut in theaters on February 12, 2021. Check out the video in the player below!

In French Exit film, “My plan was to die before the money ran out,” says 60-year-old penniless Manhattan socialite Frances Price, but things didn’t go as planned. Her husband Franklin has been dead for 12 years and with his vast inheritance gone, she cashes in the last of her possessions and resolves to live out her twilight days anonymously in a borrowed apartment in Paris, accompanied by her directionless son Malcolm and a cat named Small Frank—who may or may not embody the spirit of Frances’s dead husband.

The film stars Michelle Pfeiffer (Dangerous Liaisons) as Frances Price, Lucas Hedges (Manchester by the Sea) as Malcolm Price, and Tracy Letts (Homeland) as the voice of Small Frank the cat. It will also feature Danielle MacDonald (Dumplin’), Valerie Mahaffey (Desperate Housewives), and Susan Coyne (Slings & Arrows).

Based on Canadian author Patrick deWitt’s 2018 best-selling novel, French Exit is written and directed by Azazel Jacobs with Thorsten Schumacher serving as a producer.
The film had its world premiere at the 2020 New York Film Festival.
