After mention being made of the fact everyone returned for the sequel, Eisenberg states that the plan was always to have everyone come back and to “do it right after the first one, because the first one was so popular,” while also describing the delay as “waiting for the right script.” The 36-year-old actor went on to state that the wait then stemmed from Reese and Wernick’s work on the Deadpool franchise, as the four actors, whom Eisenberg described his working relationship with as “the ideal collaboration,” were ready to return when the time came. Zombieland: Double Tap will feature the return of stars Woody Harrelson (Solo: A Star Wars Story), Jesse Eisenberg (Now You See Me), Emma Stone (La La Land) and Abigail Breslin (Scream Queens). It will also feature new characters played by Thomas Middleditch (Silicon Valley), Zoey Deutch (Flower), Rosario Dawson (Jane the Virgin) and Luke Wilson (Old School).

In the sequel, through comic mayhem that stretches from the White House and through the heartland, these four slayers must face off against the many new kinds of zombies that have evolved since the first movie, as well as some new human survivors. But most of all, they have to face the growing pains of their own snarky, makeshift family.

The sequel is directed by Ruben Fleischer (Venom) from a screenplay written by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick (the Deadpool films).
