‘John Tucker Must Die’ Movie Review (2006)

As I was working this review out in my head in advance I began to put together a review that would bring to the surface a lot of the logic problems of this film and if you have seen this clip you know what I mean. Then I thought… booooooring. Anyone going to see this movie isn’t concerned with the logic, and putting that aside John Tucker Must Die serves its purpose by entertaining the audience with some laughs and 80 minutes of entertainment.

In a nutshell that is my review and to evaluate it any further would be a waste of time, but I will at least give you a little bit to read.

John Tucker Must Die is a perfect example of what you see is what you get. Here we have John Tucker (Jesse Metcalfe), more or less the stud of the school, he has all the charm, a fantastic basketball player, screws all the ladies (and teachers) and dumps them and they love him for it… See, there is where we run into that logic problem, but without these little set backs we would be without a movie as Mr. Tucker destroys the hearts of three lovely ladies all at once. Heather (Ashanti) is the head cheerleader, Beth (Sophia Bush) is a Vegan slut and Carrie (Arielle Kebbel) is the extracurricular guru as well as smoking hot as are the other two (this fact helps the viewing for the fellas). These three all get dumped the same day, and this is where little old Kate (Brittany Snow) comes into the picture.

Kate is a loner, she and her mother (Jenny McCarthy of all people) move from place to place as her mother’s heart is broken from state to state. This obviously causes resentment and is a large reason for Kate’s self-induced solitude, her credo being: if no one knows me, no one can hurt me. Well, that little scenario gets a bit twisted when she finds herself as an amateur shrink for our three broken hearted ladies and this is where the scheme is hatched to break John Tucker’s heart.

Heather, Beth and Carrie will transform Kate into the coolest girl in the school and teach her all the right moves to get John to fall in love with her just so she can break it off and send John’s world to the dumper. This is obviously where all our cliche moments work themselves into the film, but the story works well enough that you are never bored. There are plenty of good one-liners and the pranks pulled are just unique enough to give you a chance to laugh.

The young ladies out there are going to eat this picture up and their boyfriends won’t want to kill themselves for seeing it. You can pretty much call John Tucker Must Die a win for all involved, I was pleasantly surprised with the outcome and not at all upset I made the effort to see it.
