‘Out of Time’ Movie Review (2003)

When Denzel hits the screen the ladies flock, but boys this one is for you as well. Despite the fact that Out of Time has a sprawling epic that sends Denzel all over Florida trying to clear his name and avoid getting caught at the same time. Oh yeah, and the sexy Eva Mendes is in it.

Matt Whitlock (Washington) is the chief of police in small Banyan Key, Florida. He has recently separated from his wife (Mendes) and is having an affair with Ann Merai played by the lovely Sanaa Lathan.

Ann is married to Chris (Cain) an abusive husband and Matt is caught in the middle and finds himself in deeper than he ever expected once Ann puts him down as the primary beneficiary on her life insurance and she and her husband are found burned alive when their house is burned to the ground.

Matt begins his investigation alongside his former love and as the web begins to unravel all signs begin to point in Matt’s direction.

Out of Time keeps your stomach tied in knots as Denzel bobs and weaves his way around the Keys and arrives at the tumultuous climax that leaves you wondering who is on what side.

Former TV’s Superman, Dean Cain, is convincing as the ex-footballer and bad husband and the sexy Sanaa Lathan keeps you begging for more.

It is hard to give too much insight into this movie without giving it away, but the action and butterflies are relentless. As Matt Whitlock’s wits and words get him out of jam after jam the twists and turns this movie takes keeps you guessing until the end where the final hammer is dropped.

Don’t judge the movie by its poor choice of opening music that would leave you to believe you are about to watch Weekend at Bernie’s 3, or the fact that you are offered up a double dose of credits in the beginning.

Out of Time is a spectacular thriller and is a must see.
