According to Variety, Legendary Entertainment has announced that they have successfully acquired the worldwide film rights to Raph Breaks the Internet writer Pamela Ribon and Cat Farris’ graphic novel My Boyfriend is a Bear.

My Boyfriend is a Bear is an unconventional love story about a girl named Nora who has bad experiences with love due to a succession of terrible boyfriends. While she was on hiking, she unexpectedly finds true love in the form of a 500-pound American Black Bear who is sweet, considerate and caring.They’ll soon discover that hipster neighbors, judgmental friends, and Bear’s impending need for hibernation will put their relationship to the ultimate test. The novel was recently published this year by Oni Press.
The graphic novel was written by Ribon and was illustrated by Farris. Legendary Entertainment will produce the film. Alex Hertzberg, Joe Nozemack, James Lucas Jones, and Charlie Chu of Oni Entertainment will be the film’s executive producers. Ribbon is also set to pen the screenplay for My Boyfriend is a Bear film adaptation and will also serves as an executive producer.
Ribon is best known as the co-writer for many animation films such as: Sony’s Smurfs: The Lost Village which featured the voices of Julia Roberts, Demi Lovato, Michelle Rodriguez and Joe Manganiello; Disney‘s Moana starring Dwayne Johnson and Auli’i Cravalho; and the upcoming Wreck-it Ralph sequel Ralph Breaks the Internet which will be released this November 2018.
