Tom Hardy to Lead Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell

The Dark Knight Rises star Tom Hardy is set to lead the feature film adaptation of Ubisoft’s best-selling video game franchise, Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell, Variety reports.

The first game was released in 2002 and set in 2004, following the adventures of Sam Fisher, a covert operative assigned to a top-secret National Security Agency branch called the Third Echelon.

The games has had several sequels including, most recently, “Tom Clancy’s Spinter Cell: Conviction,” released in 2010. A new game, “Blacklist” is planned for release early next year.

Hardy, who is currently shooting Mad Max: Fury Road, also appeared this year in Lawless and This Means War.

Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell does not yet have a director, but The International‘s Eric Warren Singer will provide the screenplay.
