First announced late last month, Radar Pictures is developing a narrative feature based on the famous Hollywood night club, “The Magic Castle.” Today, The Hollywood Reporter brings word that 20th Century Fox is set to distribute and has attached McG to direct.
Andrew Barrer and Gabe Ferrari will provide the screenplay, though there’s still no confirmation on what angle the film will take. The building itself dates back more than a century and the current establishment is designed to host magicians and their guests. The club’s official website describes the venue as follows:
The Magic Castle is the private clubhouse for the Academy of Magical Arts, Inc, a very special organization devoted to the advancement of the ancient art of magic. The purpose of The Academy is to encourage and promote public interest in the art of magic with particular emphasis on preserving its history as an art form, entertainment medium, and hobby. Beginning with a charter membership of 150, the Academy has grown into a world-renowned fraternal organization with a membership of nearly 5,000.
McG most recently directed This Means War and is currently filming Three Days to Kill with Kevin Costner in the lead.
