20th Century Fox has signed Mark Bomback to rewrite the upcoming Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, says a story at The Hollywood Reporter. The script was previously worked on by Scott Z. Burns, Amanda Silver and Rick Jaffa.
Matt Reeves is slated to direct the franchise sequel, continuing the events depicted in 2011’s Rise of the Planet of the Apes. That film was directed by Rupert Wyatt and earned an impressive $481.8 million worldwide on a budget of $93 million. It starred James Franco, Freida Pinto, John Lithgow, Brian Cox, Tom Felton, David Oyelowo and Andy Serkis.
Bomback, who did uncredited work on Rise, has two other major franchise films coming up. He worked on both The Wolverine and A Good Day to Die Hard.
Dawn of the Planet of the Apes is scheduled for a May 23, 2014 release.
