Following yesterday’s announcement that production has begun on the horror sequel, Deadline is reporting that New Line Cinema’s IT: Chapter Two has cast Xavier Dolan (Boy Erased) and Will Beinbrink (Queen of the South) in supporting roles.
Dolan is set to play Adrian Mellon, who, in the novel by Stephen King, was a gay man living in Derry who was attacked by a mob only to become a victim of Pennywise. Beinbrink is playing Tom Rogan, Beverly’s abusive lover in the book.
The main cast of IT: Chapter 2 stars James McAvoy (X-Men franchise, Split) as Bill, Jessica Chastain (Crimson Peak, The Martian) as Beverly, Bill Hader (Barry, Trainwreck) as Richie, Jay Ryan (Beauty and the Beast) as Ben, James Ransone (Generation Kill) as Eddie, with Andy Bean (Here and Now) as Stanely Uris, Isaiah Mustafa as Mike, and of course the return of Bill Skarsgård as the clown Pennywise.
Beinbrink previously worked with McAvoy, Hader, and Chastain on The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby. His other credits include Free State of Jones and I Saw the Light.
Dolan is a Québécois filmmaker who recently finished writing, directing, and producing his first English-language feature The Death, and Life of John F. Donovan, starring Kit Harington, Natalie Portman, Jacob Tremblay, Susan Sarandon, and Kathy Bates. His other credits include I Killed My Mother and It’s Only the End of the World.
The second part of IT is written by Gary Dauberman from the book by Stephen King, and will be directed once again by Andy Muschietti. The sequel will hit theaters on September 6, 2019.
IT debuted in September of last year to the tune of $123.1 million on opening weekend, the highest opening weekend ever for a September release, for a fall release, and for a horror movie. It clocked in just $9 million behind Deadpool for the second-highest opening for an R-rated movie. The film earned over $700 million at the worldwide box office, making it the highest-grossing horror movie of all time
