Deadline reports that Paramount Pictures and musician Ziggy Marley have teamed up to develop a biopic based on the life and career of his father, the legendary singer Bob Marley’s life and career.
Marley is considered one of the most prolific artists in history and is widely celebrated for bringing the reggae genre into the mainstream in his almost 20-year career all before passing away at the young age of 36 after battling cancer. His music still holds a special place in listeners’ hearts and withstood the test of time, including hits “Get Up, Stand Up,” “Three Little Birds,” “Buffalo Soldier” and “Could You Be Loved.”
His career has been the subject of past documentaries and tribute albums, including 2012’s widely acclaimed Marley, but there has yet to be a biographical pic on the musician, and given Ziggy’s personal connections to both his father and his music, the pairing of him and Paramount for the film will work well.
Ziggy Marley has had quite the carer of his own in the near 40 years he’s been performing, producing documentaries on his father, guest starring on TV shows and winning the Grammy for Best Reggae Album last year, as well as winning a Grammy for Best Children’s Album in 2009 and a Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Original Song for a Children’s and Animated program. Marley just released his seventh studio album, “Rebellion Rises,” last month, which debuted at 193 on the Billboard Top 200.
