Fox searchlight has finally announced a release date for its upcoming war drama The Aftermath, which is set to hit select theaters April 26, 2019. Currently the film is without any competition on that date, though the untitled fourth Avengers movie will open just one week later.
The film is set in post-World War II Germany in 1946 and follows Rachel Morgan (Keira Knightley, Pirates of the Caribbean), the wife of a British colonel who discovers he has made a decision to move them to a new home in Germany, where they will share it with the previous owners, a German widower and his troubled daughter. As the four begin living together, the atmosphere becomes charged and tense and the feelings of anger and grief give way to passion and betrayal.
In addition to Knightley, the film features a talented cast that includes Jason Clarke (Dawn of the Planet of the Apes) as Morgan’s husband and Alexander Skarsgard (Big Little Lies, True Blood) as the German widower.
Based on the 2013 book of the same by Rhidian Brook, The Aftermath is written by Joe Shrapnel and Anna Waterhouse (Race), produced by Ridley Scott (All the Money in the World) and directed by James Kent (Testament of Youth).
