The on-the-rise Chicago performer Chance the Rapper (Slice) and newly Oscar-winning actor Sam Rockwell (Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, Moon) will join the voice cast of DreamWorks Animation and Universal Pictures‘ Trolls 2, the sequel to the 2016 hit animated film Trolls, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Chance and Rockwell will join returning voice stars Anna Kendrick (Pitch Perfect) and Justin Timberlake (The Social Network), as well as newcomers Jamie Dornan (Fifty Shades of Grey), Anthony Ramos (Hamilton), Karan Soni (Deadpool) and Flula Borg (Pitch Perfect 2).
Can’t stop the feeling as the colorful, wondrous Trolls return for Trolls 2, the follow-up to 2016’s breakout global hit about how far you’ll go for happiness…and how far you’ll go to get it back. Kendrick and Timberlake reprise their roles as the eternal optimist Poppy and the curmudgeon Branch in the new musical comedy-adventure from the creators of Shrek. Walt Dohrn (Trolls, SpongeBob SquarePants) is set to return to direct the animated film, and Gina Shay will once again produce.
The first Trolls was directed by Mike Mitchell and Walt Dohrm, from a script by Erica Rivinoja, and earned $340 million worldwide.
Chance is still relishing the three Grammys he earned last year for his acclaimed mix tape, “Coloring Book,” which became the first streaming-only album to win any Grammy, let alone Best Rap Album. Rockwell will next be seen as George W. Bush in the Dick Cheney biopic tentatively titled Backseat, and will reunite with his Iron Man 2 co-star Scarlett Johansson in Taika Waititi’s WWII dramedy Jojo Rabbit.
Trolls 2 is set to open on Friday, April 17, 2020.
