Spider-Man and The Dark Knight Rises Open Big in China

Chinese audiences attended movie theaters in huge numbers yesterday as The Amazing Spider-Man generated an estimated $5.46 million at approximately 2,515 locations. The film passed the $700 million mark worldwide yesterday.

The Dark Knight Rises also opened yesterday in China and it’s already set a record for Warner Bros. On it’s first day the film opened to $4.5 million, the highest 2D opener for WB in China. The Dark Knight Rises is slated to cross the $1 billion mark in the coming weeks. As we previously reported:

Moving up a spot into fifth place was Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises, which brought in another $7.2 million its sixth weekend in theaters. Produced for $250 million, Nolan’s third and final Batman movie has earned $422.2 million domestically and $519 million internationally for a worldwide total of $941.2 million.

In comparison, The Dark Knight earned $1.003 billion worldwide in 2008.
