First rumored last month, Walt Disney Pictures has now reportedly hired The Hunger Games director Gary Ross to helm a feature film adaptation of Dave Barry and Ridley Pierson’s bestselling children’s book, Peter and the Starcatchers.
Recently adapted into a Broadway show, Peter and the Starcatchers received nine Tony Award nominations. The film version will feature a screenplay by Jesse Wigutow (It Runs in the Family).
The book tells the backstory of the iconic Peter Pan character with Barry and Pierson already working on a series of books set in the same word.
Ross made the surprise decision not to direct The Hunger Games: Catching Fire in an announcement earlier this year. In addition to Peter and the Starcatchers, Ross’s name has been linked to Summit Entertainment’s Houdini.
