ComingSoon.net has learned that Cabin in the Woods star Fran Kranz has taken the lead in Gillian Greene-Raimi’s upcoming Murder of a Cat. Written by Christian Magalhaes and Robert Snow, the project made the 2010 “Black List” of unproduced screenplays and is described with the following logline:
A darkly comic noir about a guy trying to unravel the mystery around the murder of his pet cat.
Kranz, replacing the formerly attached Jay Baruchel, joins Dianne Wiest and J.K. Simmons in the Lionsgate film, which also marks the directing debut of Greene-Raimi (the wife of director Sam Raimi).
Kranz can next be seen in Joss Whedon’s Much Ado About Nothing, which is set to premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) next month.
