Rosamund Pike Joins Edgar Wright’s The World’s End

The Daily Mail‘s Baz Bamigboye is usually well informed on British productions and casting, and he got the jump on others with the announcement of the first extended cast to join Simon Pegg and Nick Frost in the Edgar Wright-directed The World’s End, and it’s none other than former Bond girl, Rosamund Pike!

Not a lot is known about the project beyond the first official synopsis:

20 years after attempting an epic pub crawl, five childhood friends reunite when one of them becomes hellbent on trying the drinking marathon again. They are convinced to stage an encore by mate Gary King, a 40-year old man trapped at the cigarette end of his teens, who drags his reluctant pals to their hometown and once again attempts to reach the fabled pub – The World’s End. As they attempt to reconcile the past and present, they realize the real struggle is for the future, not just theirs but humankind’s. Reaching The World’s End is the least of their worries.

One presumes that Pike will play one of the friends convinced to go on this pub crawl by Simon Pegg’s Gary King, as the comedy completes the fabled “Three Flavours Cornetto” trilogy that Wright, Pegg and Frost began with Shaun of the Dead and continued with Hot Fuzz. (Really, the only tie between the movies besides those three and their sense of humor is that Pegg and Frost’s characters eat the British ice cream treat in both movies.)

According to the story, The World’s End will begin shooting in England next month, and we expect more casting to be announced soon.

Baz points out some of Pike’s more comedic roles like the recent sequel Johnny English Reborn, although we’re pretty sure that her appearance in that movie is not what got her the gig. After getting attention playing Miranda Frost in Pierce Brosnan’s 007 finale Die Another Day, Pike has appeared in classy films including the Oscar-nominated An Education, Joe Wright’s Pride & Prejudice, Barney’s Version and Fugitive Pieces. She also appeared in the genre films Doom and Wrath of the Titans, which should prepare her for anything Wright and company throw at her.
