Warning: Potential spoilers for The New Mutants
The New Mutants movie at 20th Century Fox has been in a bit of trouble for a few months. Originally set to arrive in just a few weeks, the film was delayed by nearly a year earlier this year and has since been delayed again to an August 2, 2019 release date. Reports have circulated about the cause for such delays, with the cast confirming that a new character is already set to be added to the film, but now we might have a better understanding of the situation.
The Tracking Board has an extensive report on the behind-the-scenes shuffling around the film. The site notes that while The New Mutants was originally set to be PG-13, the success of Warner Bros.’ Stephen King adaptation IT made them reconsider the amount of scares in the film and allow for director Josh Boone to add more.
They also reveal a bit about a would-be post-credit scene for the film, which would have been an addendum to X-Men: Apocalypse‘s “Essex Corporation” tease, and would have featured Mad Men star Jon Hamm as the villain Mister Sinister. That scene has since been scraped and Tracking Board reveals that the film’s post-credit scene will now feature a different villain, reported to be played by Antonio Banderas. With the film still over a year away, however, it remains to be seen if this post-credit scene will survive the final cut.
The New Mutants stars Maisie Williams (Game of Thrones), Anya Taylor-Joy (The Witch, Thoroughbreds), Charlie Heaton (Stranger Things), Blu Hunt (The Originals), Henry Zaga (13 Reasons Why, Teen Wolf) and Alice Braga (City of God, Queen of the South).
