Joel Edgerton is set to star opposite Timothee Chalamet in the Netflix film The King

Joel Edgerton (The GiftThe Great Gatsby) will join Timothee Chalamet (Lady BirdCall Me By Your Name) in the new royal Netflix drama, The King, according to Variety. David Michod (Animal Kingdom) will direct the film, he co-wrote with Edgerton.

The King is a modern-day Shakespearean adaptation from the screenwriting duo, who also worked together on Animal Kingdom, which Michod directed. Chalamet will play the young prince who becomes King Henry V of England, and Edgerton will play his close friend Falstaff.

Henry V was one of the most renowned kings in English history (1387-1422) and led two successful invasions of France, including his victory at the 1415 Battle of Agincourt and eventually “securing full control of the French throne.” Since the film is reportedly a modern-day adaptation, it will be interesting to see what Edgerton and Michod have dreamt up for The King, whose plot is currently unknown. Production is expected to begin in June.
