Oscar winner Ben Affleck and Oscar Isaac are set to join J.C. Chandor’s Triple Frontier
Ben Affleck and Oscar Isaac are currently in negotiations to headline the drug thriller formerly known as Triple Frontier, according to Variety. They will be joining cast members Garrett Hedlund, Charlie Hunnam, Pedro Pascal, and Adia Arjona. The drama is now in pre-production with Netflix after years of development and bouncing around between studios.
J.C. Chandor will be directing the film, which is set to start filming on March 26. Filming will be taking advantage of the scenic locations of California, Columbia, and Hawaii. Triple Frontier is the border zone between Argentina, Brazil, and Paraguay.
Chandor also wrote the script based off of drafts by Mark Boal. The rewritten story will focus on five friends who will find their friendship tested when they reunite to take down a South American drug lord. This leads to triggering an unintended chain of events.
This project has been in development since the 2000s and has attracted top talent. Initially, actors Johnny Depp and Tom Hanks were linked to the project, with Kathryn Bigelow set to direct. In 2017, Channing Tatum and Tom Hardy were set to start in Frontier when Paramount had picked it up. However, when the project got picked up by Netflix, the studio was looking at Ben Affleck to star. When Affleck stepped down, actor Mark Wahlberg took his place.
