Miranda July (The Future) is set to join forces with Annapurna and Plan B to start production on her latest film in late May. The film follows the story of Old Dolio and how her world is turned upside down when her criminal parents invite an outsider to join their biggest heist yet.
The project will be July’s third film and first she will not star in. Her feature, Me and You and Everyone We Know, which July wrote, directed and starred in, won the Camera d’Or at Cannes and a Special Jury Prize at Sundance.
Miranda July is a filmmaker, artist, and writer. Her most recent book is The First Bad Man. July’s collection of stories, No One Belongs Here More Than You, won the Frank O’Connor International Short Story Award and has been published in twenty-three countries. Her writing has appeared in The Paris Review, Harper’s, and The New Yorker; It Chooses You was her first book of non-fiction. July’s participatory art works include the website Learning to Love You More (with artist Harrell Fletcher), Eleven Heavy Things (a sculpture garden created for the 2009 Venice Biennale), New Society (a performance), and Somebody (a messaging app).
The production will mark July’s first film with Plan B and Annapurna. Youree Henley will also produce.
