Deadline is reporting that recent Best Original Screenplay Oscar winner Jordan Peele (Get Out) and Keegan-Michael Key (Don’t Think Twice), formerly of Comedy Central’s Key & Peele, have taken their stop-motion animated feature film Wendell and Wild to Netflix, which will finance and distribute. In development since 2015, Wendell and Wild will be directed by Henry Selick (The Nightmare Before Christmas, Coraline), who conceived of the idea and penned the script with Peele and Clay McLeod Chapman (The Boy).
“‘Wendell and Wild’ is a comedy about two scheming demon brothers who must face their arch-nemesis, the demon-dusting nun Sister Helly, and her two acolytes, the goth teens Kat and Raoul,” Selick said previously of the movie. Key and Peele will provide the voices of the brothers, while acclaimed Argentinian artist Pablo Lobato will design the characters.
Selick’s previous animated feature film effort, The Shadow King, was cancelled by Walt Disney Studios after spending a reported $50 million on the project. He also previously directed James and the Giant Peach, Monkeybone and the animated segments of Wes Anderson’s The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou.
Key and Peele previously starred together in the 2016 comedy Keanu. Key will next be seen in Shane Black’s The Predator and as Kamari in Jon Favreau’s The Lion King. Peele will next star in the horror film Abruptio, and is writing an untitled original thriller at Universal for his directorial follow-up to Get Out.
